New Orleans Cover Bands and Dance Bands - JMO Has you "COVERED!"

The ability to read an audience and give them exactly what they want is what Jimmy believes has allowed JMO to become the premier party band in the New Orleans Music scene. JMO have been around in their current configurations for 33 years making them one of the oldest lineup in the city.

“Ive had people tell me to you should play original material and write your own music but Elvis never wrote a song in his life. You wouldn’t say he was in a cover band, would you?

In a town where you can walk down Frenchman street and hear five different “original” musicians all riffing on “St. James Infirmary” (a song they didn’t write) making the determination that JMO and other New Orleans cover bands like them aren’t on the same level is a hard sell to Jimmy Maxwell.

I always say it takes a lot more talent to band that replicates dozens of different artists in an night as opposed to an original band that can come out and just “be themselves”.  I have to sound like Chuck Berry on one song and then the next song we have to sound close to Van Morrison.

For music producer Robert Maxwell, switching form playing in a cover band to an original band requires a musical separation, but he amount of talent and hard work he puts in remain the same. In addition to recording and producing, and playing drums in a popular cover band, he stay busy full-time.

Music requires 100% dedication. People see cover bands as a lesser form of music, but I don’t agree with that. Is it  easer to play your own music as opposed to someone else’s music? It depends. I know a lot of original band musicians who couldn’t play a cover to save their life. and I know cover band musicians who can’t jam with original bands.

When Does a Gala Band Help with Non-Profits?

The end result is not always known when we play for galas and fundraisering benifits, so it's nice to get feedback from time to time. It turns out in this instance that we were able to help "Gunning For A Cure Prostate Cancer Resarch Funraiser" to raise $104,000 to help men's prostate help. We couldn't be more pleased.

The funds will help genetic research in this area, a program started years ago to by the Perez family who experienced the effects of this insideious desease.

If we can help Tulane Cancer Center, or the LSU Alumni Medical Association at there fundrasing gala, our band (JMO) would be happy to help you do so as well. Check out our gala band page, you'll be glad you did.!

Brides Are The Star of The Show

Simply put, the Bride is the star of the show. It is her day, her choices and her memoires for the rest of her life. For us, it's about utilizing our skills as host and entertainers by using our professional equipment and havning a backup plan for any situation. Our entire focus is on creating the event that you have planned. When looking for wedding band music for your reception, ask about the sound equipment the band will use. Not all venues can use a "big" sound system nor do you want a pair of 12" speakers for the ballroom of a major hotel. It's important to match the right equipment to the right situarion.

Speaking of having the right equipment. If you're thinking of videographers, we suggest you look at

for video memories that will live forever. They know how to capture the bride and the wedding band music along with the guests who will party forever thanks to them.

Please give us a call if we can help!

A Few Tips for Hiring Wedding Band Music

Since the wedding season is upon us, you may be interested in some ideas to consider when it comes to hiring a wedding band.

    • First. Think about how you want your reception to be remembered. Is it mostly your friends and their age group? Do you have a wide variety of ages? In some instances, a young couple gets married, but it's mostly older family and longtime family friends at the reception. Music that makes them comfortable, (genre, selection, volume, among other things) wil certainly give them pleasant memories of your event.
    • Second. Think of songs that may have a special meaning for you and soon-to-be spouse. If you haven't seen the movie, "When Harry Met Sally" we highly recommend it. Not just because it features Leo Ursini in the wedding reception scene, but because it's a great movie about your future relationship. It also gives you a great idea of how music can relate to your life. Check it out!
    • Third. Consider your budget. Weddings are expensive, there's no doubt. But before you cross live music off the list, check with the band and see what they can do within your budget.

At JMO, we pay attention to the style of music, your budget for live entertainment and most of all to the vision of your event. We are proud to be considered one of the top wedding band music bands in New Orleans.
